The Hospital started with 40 beds and an out patient section mainly for cataract patients. At the inception, the Project was actively monitored by Late PDG Justice Harihar Mohapatra. Within the period of 9 years, the Hospital has expanded to have 120 beds of different categories. The Hospital from its inception has examined more than 10,00,000 patients in the OPD.
Through efficient management and by charging a reasonable fee to the paying patients both in the OPD and in the indoor, for their treatment and for operations, the Hospital is able to provide free services to about 70% of the patients. Through outreach camps, conducted, through out the week, medical teams from the Hospital go out to camps in rural areas on an average radius of about 150 K.Ms. Hundreds of patients are examined and screened at each of the camps. Those who are fit for operation of cataract are transported to the Hospital for treatment and operation and thereafter, transported back to their homes. Food is provided free for these patients. Follow up of the cases are done at the rural camps, six weeks after. |
