The Rotary Club of Cuttack is the oldest Rotary Club in Orissa, established in the year 1945. The Club during its inception and afterwards has had very eminent dignitaries and prominent citizens of Orissa as its members. Of the various Projects undertaken by the Club restoring sight to the cataract patients has been one of the foremost in the last two decades. Initially cataract operations were done in camps in rural or urban areas. The Rotary Club of Cuttack Charitable Trust was formed in 1978 for the purpose of collecting funds and supervising various projects undertaken by the Rotary Club of Cuttack. The Trust has a Chairman, Managing Trustee, Treasurer and Board of Trustees elected yearly by the Rotary Club of Cuttack. The offices of Rotary Club of Cuttack as well as Trust are located at the JPM Rotary Eye Hospital. In 1990 the Royal Common Welth Society for the Blind (at present, Sight Savers International) who were aiding us in organizing camps, came up with a proposal to set up an Eye Hospital. The proposal was accepted by the Club and construction of the Hospital was started at Bidanasi, Cuttack in March, 1991 and was inaugurated on 14th January. |
